The denomination Sea Gypsies corresponds to a group of boat and sea coastal dwellers living in scattered areas of South East Asia. In China they are called Tanka, in Mindanao (Phillippines) and the adjacent coasts of Malaysia (Sabah) they are called Sama-Bajau, in Thailand are know as Chao Le and Urak Lawoi, as well as Moken in Myanmar and Orang Laut in Singapur and Indonesia. They are also found in some coastal villages of Hong-Kong and Vietnam.
